Who We Are

Rooted in Zimbabwe.
Rigorous by standard.

Imvelo — meaning origin, nature, and essence in Ndebele — reflects our commitment to understanding projects at their roots: what they intended, what they achieved, and what lasting difference they made.

We serve international NGOs, bilateral donors, UN agencies, CSOs, and government programmes across Zimbabwe and southern Africa. Our team combines doctoral-level research rigour with deep field experience to produce evaluations that are both methodologically sound and practically actionable.

Founded in 2024 and registered as a Private Business Corporation in Zimbabwe, Imvelo operates across all 10 provinces with full language coverage in English, Shona, and Ndebele.

"Every development investment should be informed by rigorous evidence, with communities as active participants in measuring their own progress."
What We Do

Full-spectrum evaluation
and research services.

From programme inception through final impact assessment — we manage the complete evaluation lifecycle without subcontracting core functions.

01
Baseline Studies
Establish indicator benchmark values at project start using mixed methods — KAP surveys, FGDs, KIIs. Includes sampling design, inception report, fieldwork, data analysis, and validated report.
4–10 weeks
02
Midterm Evaluations
Independent assessment of progress, implementation quality, and early lessons at project midpoint. Identifies course corrections and verifies Theory of Change assumptions before it's too late to act.
3–5 weeks
03
End-of-Project Evaluations
Summative assessment against objectives, results frameworks, and OECD-DAC donor standards. Captures lessons learned, impact evidence, and scalability recommendations.
4–10 weeks
04
Needs Assessments
Community-level analysis of priority needs, gaps, and contextual drivers to inform programme design and funding proposals with credible, field-sourced evidence.
2–4 weeks
05
Theory of Change Review
Facilitation of participatory ToC workshops, critical review of existing logic models, and development of revised Results Frameworks aligned to programme realities.
1–2 weeks
06
M&E System Design
Design of M&E frameworks, indicator matrices, data collection tools, and reporting templates. Includes training on KOBO Collect and data quality management protocols.
2–4 weeks
07
Formative & Thematic Research
In-depth thematic research including gender analyses, stakeholder mapping, political economy analyses, and KAP studies. Rigorous, fieldwork-grounded, and donor-ready.
3–6 weeks
08
Organisational Capacity Assessments
Structured evaluation of CSO/CBO institutional capacity across governance, financial management, M&E systems, and programme delivery — for funders and implementing partners alike.
2–3 weeks
Our Approach

Built for use,
not filing.

Every assignment is structured to produce findings that reach the people who can act on them — within the communities they affect.

01
Mixed Methods by Default Quantitative rigour (survey sampling, statistical analysis) combined with qualitative depth (FGDs, KIIs, participatory methods) on every evaluation — no exceptions.
02
Inception-First We never begin fieldwork without an approved Inception Report documenting methodology, sampling plan, tools, and workplan. This protects both parties from scope drift and data quality failures.
03
Gender, Rights & Inclusion Mainstreamed Disaggregation by sex, age, and disability status is non-negotiable in our sampling, data collection, and analysis — from ToR review to final report.
04
Utilisation-Focused Recommendations are specific, time-bound, and addressed to named actors. We design for decision-making, not donor filing.
Sector Experience
Health & SRHREvaluations for SRH, adolescent health, family planning, and HIV/AIDS programmes.
MHPSSPsychosocial support, community resilience, and peace-building programmes.
LivelihoodsClimate adaptation, VSLAs, agricultural value chains, and food security.
Gender & GBVFeminist evaluations, gender analyses, GBV prevention and response.
Education & YouthSkills development, vocational training, digital inclusion, and CSE.
GovernanceCSO advocacy, policy engagement, accountability, and capacity assessment.
Why Imvelo

What sets us
apart.

We live and work in the communities we evaluate — while applying OECD-DAC, UNEG, and donor-grade methodological standards.

Zimbabwe-Rooted, Internationally Rigorous
We understand the political economy, language dynamics, and community access challenges that external evaluators miss — while applying internationally recognised standards throughout.
Doctoral-Level Research Leadership
Our lead evaluators are PhD candidates actively engaged with peer-reviewed research, ensuring our methods remain current, defensible, and methodologically state-of-the-art on every assignment.
Full Language Coverage
Our team conducts fieldwork natively in English, Shona, and Ndebele — eliminating translation gaps that distort qualitative findings in Zimbabwe's multilingual context.
End-to-End Delivery
From ToR review and inception through fieldwork, analysis, validation workshops, and final report — we manage the full evaluation lifecycle without subcontracting core functions.
Ethical & Safeguarding Compliance
All team members are trained in research ethics, child protection safeguarding, and data privacy. We adhere to Plan International, USAID, EU, and UN ethical research standards.
15+ Field Enumerators Nationwide
A vetted associate network spanning Harare, Bulawayo, Kwekwe, Mutare, Masvingo, and Gweru — with subject-matter specialists in disability inclusion, climate adaptation, and financial inclusion.
